SMITS TABBED AS CCAC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK

CHICAGO - The Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) announced on Tuesday morning that they have selected Olivet Nazarene University guard Karina Smits as its Player of the Week.  This is the first player of the week honor for Smits and the Tigers program this season. 

Smits had a terrific week for the Tigers against Lincoln College and IU-Northwest.  Against Lincoln, the Pewaukee, Wis. native went off for a team-high 23 points.  In that game, Smits went 7-16 from behind the arc and registered two rebounds, two steals, and a block.  Smits followed that up with 18 points, three boards, and a steal against IU-Northwest on the road.  The senior is averaging a team third-best 10.0 points a game and shooting 30.6 percent from three. 

The Tigers travel to Phoenix, Ariz. after the Christmas break to compete in the Firestorm Classic. On Dec. 29, ONU will take on Arizona Christian followed by Embry-Riddle on the 30th. Both Wednesday and Thursday's contests start at 4 p.m. CST.
