TIGERS GO TO PENALTY SHOOTOUT AND FALL IN OPENING ROUND OF CCAC TOURNAMENT

DAVENPORT, Iowa – In the opening round of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament, the Tigers took on the Fighting Bees of St. Ambrose in a battle that closely reflected their regular season matchup from this past weekend.

Taking a look at the box score, the Tigers had a better day on the offensive end with nine total shots, and four going towards goal. On the defensive side of the pitch, Samantha Tuuk (SO/Tinley Park, Ill.) only had to make two saves on the day, thanks to her sturdy line of defenders. Kelly Sylvester (SR/Naperville, Ill. ) and Marissa Anderson (SO/Shorewood, Ill.) have paired nicely as centerbacks in the matches that they have played together, and that was still the case on this day. The offensive leaders were Abby Cash (SO/Gardner, Ill.) and Sara Loichinger (SO/New Lenox, Ill.) with a majority of the Tigers shots on goal. Cash has played excellent in her role as a wing-back and Loichinger has effectively made the switch from her defensive position last year into the midfield.

Although the attack looked promising for the Tigers, 90 minutes were played without any goals, so the two sides would go into overtime for the second time in a four-day period.

End of Regulation: ONU 0, SAU 0

Two overtime periods were played and the defenses continued to dominate. Only two shots between the two sides were taken in the entirety of overtime and neither were on target. Therefore, the match would need a penalty shootout to decide the winner.

End of Double Overtime: ONU 0, SAU 0

In the penalty shootout, St. Ambrose would convert four out of their five attempts, with Samantha Tuuk making one save. For the Tigers, Jeanine Valera (SR/Naperville, Ill.) and Susanna Lindquist (FR/Round Lake, Ill.) cemented their chances from the spot, but two misses would be the reason for a defeat in this matchup.

Penalties: ONU 2, SAU 4
