ONU MEN GET WIN WHILE WOMEN FALL TO BETHEL IN FINAL FALL MATCH

MISHAWAKA, Ind. – In the final matches of the fall season, the Olivet Nazarene men took down Bethel (Ind.) 4-3 Wednesday afternoon at Miller Field Tennis Courts. The women fell to the Pilots 6-1.

The Tiger men won their final match on the strength of their doubles play. ONU swept all three of the double matches to take the point, then split the singles matches to get the win.

Carlo Cota and Carlos Gomez teamed for a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles, while Curt Seifert and Paul Saleh won 6-4 at No. 2. In No. 3 doubles, Juan Banuls and Brian Ayala cruised to a 6-1 victory.

Banuls and Saleh, along with Davi Toledo, each won a singles match to give the Tigers the win. After dropping the first set, Banuls rallied for the second set to force a tiebreaker, ultimately winning that tiebreaker for a win at No. 3. Saleh won in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4. In the decisive No. 6 match, Toledo rose to the occasion with a straight-set win 6-4, 6-2.

The ONU women only found one win in their loss to Bethel (Ind.).

Natasha Nieto had a big day on the court for the Tigers. Nieto teamed with Susan Shin to claim the Tigers' lone doubles win 6-3, and then took down her opponent 7-5, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.

WHAT'S NEXT?

This dual was the final match of the fall for both ONU tennis teams. The spring season will start up with home matches against Eastern Illinois University. The men will play on Feb. 3 while the women will take the court on Feb. 11.
