GIANNOTTA CLAIMS THIS WEEK'S DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK AWARD
CHICAGO, Ill. - Olivet Nazarene University's Mike Giannotta (Papendrecht, Netherlands) recorded a pair of shutouts during the week of Sept. 26-Oct. 2 to claim Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week distinction. The award were announced Tuesday morning by the league office.
Giannotta was clutch in keeping Olivet Nazarene as the lone remaining unbeaten team in the league. The senior goalkeeper opened with a pair of saves in a 0-0 tie with Judson University on Tuesday. That was followed by his one save in a first-place showdown with Cardinal Stritch University on Saturday, which the Tigers won 3-0.
The two blankings give Giannotta a league-best six shutouts on the campaign. He also leads the conference in save percentage (.818) and goals-against average (0.60).
Olivet Nazarene is currently tied with Holy Cross College for first place in the league with 13 points each. The Tigers are 8-1-1 overall and 4-0-1 in league competition.
