ONU SOFTBALL GETS OUT TO PERFECT START IN TUCSON INVITATIONAL

TUCSON, Ariz. - The Olivet Nazarene University softball team got out to a perfect start to their spring break trip in Tuscon, Ariz., taking down College of Saint Mary 3-2 before unloading 15 runs on Dickinson State in day one of the Tucson Invitational.

Game One: Olivet Nazarene 3, College of Saint Mary (Neb.) 2

In the first game of the tournament, the Tigers got all of the runs they would need in the bottom of the third inning. Carissa Bombardiere broke the scoreless tie when she belted an RBI double down the left-field line that brought Margaret Landis all the way around from first base to put ONU on top.

Three batters later, Mallory O'Connor extended the Tiger lead by lifting a single to center field. This allowed Bombardiere and Kate Landis to fly around the bases and put the Tigers up 3-0.

The Flames (3-11) responded with a pair of runs in the following frame to make it a one-run game. But the score would deadlock at 3-2 as Emily Blucker came in for relief to shut it down. She limited the Flames to one hit and left them off the scoreboard over the final three innings to pick up the save.

Game Two: Olivet Nazarene 15, Dickinson State 4

In the second game, ONU pounded out 18 hits as they cruised to a five-inning win. O'Connor and Timm sent out three hits each while Madelynn went a perfect 4-for-4 from the dish.

The Tigers struck early, plating three runs in the opening inning. After Kate Landis was able to wheel home on an error, Timm smacked a two-run shot over the wall in left to give ONU a lead they would hold on to for the remainder of the game.

ONU added another three runs in the second, four in the third, and put up a five-spot in the fifth inning to make it 15-4, ending the game in the fifth inning.

Six Tigers tabbed an RBI in the blowout victory. Timm led the charge with four RBIs while O'Connor plated three. Kori Fricke was credited with the win.
