TIGERS PICK UP TWO MORE WINS IN DAY TWO OF TUCSON INVITATIONAL

TUSCON, Ariz. - The Olivet Nazarene University softball team picked up a pair of wins in three games in day two of the Tucson Invitational. The Tigers fell to Park Gilbert but shutout both Rensselaer Polytechnic and Bethany Lutheran to go 2-1 on the day.

Game One: Olivet Nazarene 4, Rensselaer Polytechnic 0

The day's first game was a pitcher's duel in the early goings. Haley Dobson got things started in the bottom of the fourth with a leadoff double. She was promptly plated by Margaret Landis that put ONU on top. Two batters later, Kate Landis lifted an RBI single to left field that scored her sister and gave the Tigers a 2-0 advantage.

The Tigers added two more runs in the following frame, Madelynn Flinn roped an RBI single to right and Kate Landis drew a bases-loaded walk to plate Dobson with the final run.

Allie Timm shut down Rensselaer Polytechnic on the hill, pitching a complete game shutout. She scattered four hits and struck out five in the win.

Game Two: Park Gilbert 6, Olivet Nazarene 3

A big first inning from Park put the Tigers in an early hole that they couldn't climb out of. The Buccaneers jumped on Olivia Flinn for three runs in the opening frame and added another in the second to make it 4-0 early.

Dobson put the Tigers on the board with an RBI single in the third before loading the bases in the fourth inning. Mallory O'Connor was able to draw an RBI walk with two outs, but ONU couldn't get any runs more across. Park added two more insurance runs in their half of the fourth to make it a 6-2 game.

In the top of the sixth, Vannah Vaughan smacked a leadoff triple to right center and then stole home to cut the deficit to three. But that would prove to be the final run of the game as the Tigers dropped the bout.

Timm and Vaughan both sent out two hits while Margaret Landis drew two walks. Olivia Flinn was credited with the loss.

Game Three: Olivet Nazarene 15, Bethany Lutheran 0

In the final game of the day, ONU pounded out 18 hits, three each coming off the bats of Faith Mikos, Mallory O'Connor, and Madelynn Flinn.

The Tigers pounced on Bethany Lutheran for eight runs in the first inning, Mikos and O'Connor both sent out two hits, and Mikos scored twice, in the opening frame. ONU added three more runs in the second inning and four more in the fourth to promptly end the game in five innings.

On the mound, Timm and Emily Blucker combined for the shutout. The duo struck out 13 of the 18 batters they faced. Blucker struck out eight of nine and didn't allow a single baserunner in three innings pitched.
