TIGERS MOVE BACK TO .500 IN CCAC WITH STRAIGHT-SET WIN OVER GSU

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University women's volleyball team picked up their second-straight win for the first time this season with a straight-set 25-23, 25-18, 26-24 win over Governors State Thursday evening in McHie Arena. The win moves the Tigers to 4-6 overall and 2-2 in CCAC play.

The Tigers had to overcome a fast start from the Jaguars, surrendering a 6-1 lead to start and later trailing 15-11 midway through the opening set. That was when ONU strung together four quick points, with kills from Kelsey Todd, Sabrina Sanif, and an ace off the hand of Kaylee Cozen tying things up.

Sanif put down another kill to spark a three-point rally that gave the Tigers a lead that they would not relinquish. A Luisa Slompo ace closed out the opening set victory.

ONU then dominated the second set, cruising to a two-set lead with 12 kills on a .147 hitting percentage, while Governors State totaled 26 kills and hit at a -.143 clip.

The Jaguars picked things back up in the third set, racing out to a 12-6 lead. But ONU would collect seven of the next eight points to take the lead. GSU battled back to force the deuce, but back-to-back hitting errors secured the set and the win for the Tigers.

Nicholas and Molly Kurtz both posted double-digit kills in the win, notching 10 each. Sanif hammered down eight while Cozen and Todd both finished with five.

Hadleigh Loitz led the match with 36 kills. She also racked up five digs.Sara Serafimova and Todd led the defensive effort, finishing with 17 and 15 digs, respectively.

The Tigers will look to extend their winning streak with another home match, squaring off against IU Northwest in McHie Arena next Tuesday.
