LATE RUNS PLAGUE TIGERS IN REGULAR-SEASON FINALE

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University softball team led early in both games but ultimately dropped a doubleheader in the regular-season finale against St. Francis (Ill.) Thursday afternoon.

Despite 14 hits in the opener, the Tigers only managed two runs on the scoreboard in the 11-inning defeat. Mallory O'Connor broke the scoreless tie in the fifth inning with an RBI single, but the Fighting Saints (31-7, 18-2 CCAC) evened things in the sixth with a solo home run.

The score would deadlock at 1-1 up until the 10th when Kori Frick got the Tigers in front with an RBI single down the right field line. But once again St. Francis had the answer with a sacrifice fly in their half of the inning.

After ONU couldn't get back in front in the 11th, The Fighting Saints then walked it off with another solo home run, handing Fricke just her second loss in 12 decisions. She struck out five on three earned runs in the loss. Faith Mikos led the Tigers on offense with three hits. Five other Tigers recorded two hits apiece.

The nightcap opened up with two scoreless frames before the Tigers pounced for a three-spot in the third inning, with Margaret Landis plating two with a single and Haley Dobson adding a run with another RBI single.

Allie Timm kept USF off the board until the fifth inning when their bats finally woke up. The Saints scratched four runs across in what would prove to be the deciding inning as the Tigers couldn't plate any more runs. ONU finished game two with just four hits.

Timm was tagged with the loss in the nightcap. She allowed four hits and two earned runs over five innings. Olivia Flinn gave up just one earned run over the final two frames.

ONU ended the regular season with a 26-14 overall record and a 15-5 record in the CCAC.
