TIGERS WRAP UP BUSY WEEK IN ARIZONA WITH TWO LOSSES

TUCSON, Ariz. – The Olivet Nazarene University softball team wrapped up their full week of 12 games in five days with a pair of losses to close out the Tucson Invitational. The Tigers went 7-5 against some of the NAIA's best over the course of the week.

Game One: Concordia (Neb.) 6, Olivet Nazarene 2

A Concordia (10-10) three-spot in the opening inning put the Tigers in an early hole that they couldn't climb out of. ONU loaded the bases in the following frame, and Kate Landis got the Tigers on the board with a two-out RBI walk, but the Tigers couldn't get any more runs across with the prime opportunity.

The Bulldogs got the run right back in the third inning and added two more in the top of the seventh to make it a five-run ball game. Madelynn Flinn was able to scamper home on a Bulldog fielding error, but the Tigers couldn't do any more damage in the final inning to drop the bout.

Olivia Flinn toed the rubber for the Tigers, going four innings as the starter. She went allowed four earned runs on six hits. Kori Fricke threw three innings in relief.

Game Two: Jamestown 3, Olivet Nazarene 2

The Tigers fired up the offense early in the second game of the day. Carissa Bombardiere drew a leadoff walk, promptly stole second, and wheeled home off a Zoe Oshiro RBI single to make it 1-0 Tigers in the top of the first. Mallory O'Connor extended the ONU lead to two with an RBI groundout in the third inning.

Jamestown (12-8) scratched their first run across in their half of the third to make it 2-1, which is where the score would hold until the final inning.

ONU had a chance to add some insurance in the top of the seventh with the bases loaded but were unable to bring a run home. This would be to be costly as the Jimmies were able to score the two runs necessary to walk the game off.

Kori Fricke went the distance as the starter, scattering five hits on three earned runs. She also struck out three in the loss.

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Tigers will welcome Cornerstone to Bourbonnais for the home opener on March 17. The teams will play a doubleheader, with the first game set to begin at 3 p.m. CST.
