ONU SWEEPS TRINITY CHRISTIAN TO STAY PERFECT IN CONFERENCE PLAY

RIVER GROVE, Ill. – The Olivet Nazarene University softball team pounded out 23 hits en route to a two-game sweep of Trinity Christian Saturday afternoon, pushing the Tigers' record in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) to a perfect 3-0.

Game One: Olivet Nazarene 9, Trinity Christian 8

The opener got out to an auspicious start as the Trolls (10-8, 1-3 CCAC) jumped on the Tigers for four runs in the bottom of the first.

But the bats picked up for the Tigers as they scored nine unanswered runs over three innings. Avery Osborn got ONU on the board with an RBI single in the third before the Tigers blasted off five runs in the fourth.

Three more runs came in for the Tigers in the top of the fifth, which all came off one swing of the bat when Haley Dobson rocked a three-run shot that put ONU up by five.

Trinity Christian came firing back in the final two innings to make it a one-run ballgame in the bottom of the seventh, but Kori Fricke finished the game off with a strikeout to pick up the win.

Game Two: Olivet Nazarene 8, Trinity Christian 2

The Tigers left no doubt in the second game of the doubleheader, hammering in six runs over the first three innings to take a commanding lead. Mallory O'Connor opened the scoring with an RBI groundout in the top of the first before ONU put up a four-spot in the second inning. Gwen Bender roped in an RBI single in the bottom of the third to make it 6-1 Tigers.

With the Tigers up by four heading into the final inning, Megan Mann launched a home run over the wall in right-center and Margaret Landis hit an RBI single up the middle to add two insurance runs. Olivia Flinn, who went the distance as the starter, retired the side in the bottom of the seventh to secure the win.

Flinn struck out six en route to her third win of the season. Six Tigers notched an RBI in the win. O'Connor led the way with two.

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Tigers will play another set of CCAC games on the road at Trinity International on Wednesday, April 5. The first game is set to begin at 3 p.m. CST.
