NO. 16 OLIVET HOLD OFF SXU TO PICK UP FOURTH CONSECUTIVE WIN

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – The No. 16 Olivet Nazarene University men's soccer team fought off the Cougars of Saint Xavier with a 2-1 win to extend their unbeaten streak to nine games Tuesday night. Konstantin Papanikolaou and Max Jasper netted the two goals while Benjamin Struebelt and Justin Eisenmann recorded the assists for the Tigers.

The Tigers had to battle the wet conditions after a rainy Tuesday afternoon. The attacker from Austria opened the scoring in the 13th minute. Hasler and Struebelt combined on the right side of the field to move the ball into the attacking third. A ball rolled to Struebelt and then rolled to Papanikolaou leading to the finish at the far post. SXU had a quick response two minutes later. A ball over the top led to some confusion on the ONU backline allowing Jaedan Aquilera to score the equalizer. Both teams headed into the break with the score level.

Halftime: No. 16 Olivet Nazarene 1, Saint Xavier 1

ONU flipped the momentum out of halftime with a change in formation. The Tiger's modification led to an early goal nine minutes into the second period. Eisenmann cut towards the middle of the field from the left side and picked out Jasper at the far post. Jasper's half-volley beat the Cougars' netminder to regain the Olivet lead. The Purple and Gold backline stood firm allowing zero shots on frame for the remainder of the match despite feeling the pressure from SXU who committed 17 fouls to ONU's 8 and picked up eight cards to the Tiger's one.
