ALEX GROSS EARNS NAIA AND CCAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK FOR THE SECOND TIME IN THREE WEEKS

BOURBONNAIS, Ill. – For the second time in the last three weeks, Olivet Nazarene University men's basketball center Alex Gross was honored as the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC) Player of the Week as both organizations announced its selection on Tuesday morning.  Gross has earned the CCAC men's basketball Player of the Week for the sixth time this season. 

 

Gross continues to dominate the post for the Tigers.  The Hope, Ind. native tallied a pair of double-doubles and his second triple-double of the season last week.  Against Judson, Gross dropped in 37 points, grabbed 17 boards, blocked 10 shots, and picked up eight assists.  Against Calumet, the Tiger big man scored 23 points and added 16 rebounds.  To conclude the week, Gross added 27 points and 15 rebounds against Trinity Christian.  On the week, Gross shot 68.6% from the field and 89.5% from the charity strike.

 

The Tiger big man is the leader in the NAIA averaging 14.1 rebounds, totaling 380 total rebounds, and blocking 93 shots.  Gross is second in the NAIA averaging 3.4 blocks a game, fourth in total field goals made with 239, and fifth in total assists with 147.  The ONU big man is also 11th nationally, averaging 22 points a game. Gross is also 14 rebounds away from breaking the ONU men's basketball program record for the most rebounds a single season that was set in the 1968-69 season.

 

The No. 13 Tigers host the Jaguars of Governors State University on Wednesday, February 16th for Senior Night.  Tipoff inside McHie Arena is set for 7:30 p.m.
