SCHMIDT NAMED NAIA SECOND TEAM ALL-AMERICAN FOR SECOND STRAIGHT YEAR

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – After a career year of etching his name into the program history books, Olivet Nazarene University men's basketball guard Tyler Schmidt has been named to the All-America second team by the NAIA. The league office announced their All-American selections Monday.

The announcement marks the second time in as many years that Schmidt has been named to the NAIA's second team. He also earned an honorable mention from the NAIA at the end of the 2021-22 season.

A three-time first-team all-CCAC selection and back-to-back CCAC Player of the Year recipient, Schmidt becomes the third Tiger to be named to two All-America teams. His former teammate Alex Gross placed on the second team in 2021 and the first team in 2022 and Nic Reed landed on the first team in 2019 and 2020.

Schmidt averaged 23.9 points per game this season, which led the CCAC and was the sixth-best scoring clip in the nation. He shot 52.8 percent from the field, 35.4 percent from three, and 86.7 percent from the free-throw line. He reached double-figures in all 31 of ONU's games this season, including six 30-plus point performances and a career-best 40 points in the team's 86-73 win over Trinity Christian on Feb. 17.

The Valparaiso, Ind., native became just the sixth player in program history to score 2,000 career points when he hit the mark on Feb. 3 in a win over St. Francis (Ill.). He ended the season fourth on the school's all-time scoring list with 2,267 career points.

It all helped ONU finish 22-9 overall and earn a berth in the NAIA National Tournament, the team's sixth appearance in a row.
