NO. 16 TIGERS DEFEND THEIR TITLE TO WIN THE CCAC REGULAR SEAON CHAMPIONSHIP

EAST CHICAGO, Ind. – The No. 16 Olivet Nazarene University men's soccer program successfully defended their Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference regular season title with a 5-0 victory over Calumet College St. Joesph on Saturday. The Tigers have now won the regular season championship for the fifth time in program history and for the first time in back-to-back seasons.


Heading into the contest, the Tigers needed just a point to secure the crown. ONU laid the pressure on thick with 23 shot attempts, 12 of which were on frame. Calumet's Jose Molina stood firm to keep the game scoreless heading into the halftime intermission.

Olivet's patience and resolve paid off with the breakthrough goal in the 51st minute. Konstantin Papanikolaou netted the game-winner assisted by Alexis Mancera. The sophomore from Austria doubled his tally and ONU's lead 18 minutes later to bring his season goal tally to eight on the campaign.


The game opened up quickly as a result with two more goals being scored in quick succession. Max Jasper increased the lead to three with a goal in the 70th minute with Maarten Gravekamp netting his first career goal 93 seconds later off a pass from Ted Kuijt. The senior, Unla Husseini put an exclamation on the end of the match with the fifth and final score in the 81st minute as the Tigers closed out the win.
