ONU SWEEPS CCAC MEN’S VOLLEYBALL WEEKLY AWARDS

CHICAGO, Ill. – Olivet Nazarene University gained a sweep of the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference men's volleyball weekly honors for the seven-day period ending March 10 after Brody McAfee, Kahaku Marquez, and Tomas Gonzalezled the Tigers to a perfect 4-0 week. The league office made the announcement on Tuesday morning.

McAfee gained his second CCAC Attacker of the Week award after posting a 4.43 kills-per-set average with a .307 hitting percentage. He recorded no less than 11 kills in any one match. Defensively, he was just as solid, totaling 18 blocks over his 14 sets played and averaging 1.86 digs per set.

The freshman opposite-side hitter opened the four-match week with his best per-set numbers, averaging 5.33 kills in a 3-0 win over Roosevelt University last Tuesday. That was followed by his highest attacking percentage match (.419) in a four-set decision over Trinity Christian College on Thursday. He also produced eight blocks that night. 

McAfee's highest number of kills for the week came on Saturday when he put up 20 in a four-set victory opposite Viterbo University. Defensively, he matched his seven digs with seven blocks in the contest.

Marquez earned CCAC Defender of the Week accolades for the second time after averaging better than one block per contest (1.14) over his four matches and 14 sets played. Offensively, he was just as impressive with his .578 attack percentage and 2.14 kills per set.  He committed just four attacking errors in 45 chances with 30 kills.

On defense, the junior middle blocker posted six blocks versus Trinity Christian, five against Viterbo and four opposite Roosevelt, all league affairs.

Gonzalez made his way to the awards stand as the CCAC Setter of the Week for the first time. The sophomore averaged 11.7 assists and 2.2 digs per set during the Tigers' 4-0 week.

Gonzalez recorded no less than 35 assists in any of his four matches played, topped by his 51 in the win over Viterbo on Friday. In that same contest, he also delivered 13 digs, or better than 3.25 per set. 

Against both Roosevelt and Dordt College (Iowa), in a pair of three-set victories, Gonzalez recorded 39 assists.

Olivet Nazarene got back to the .500 mark overall (7-7) with its four victories last week.  The Tigers are also now 3-1 in league play after the three conference wins.
