ONU CROSS COUNTRY IMPROVES TIMES AT GREATER LOUISVILLE CLASSIC

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Eight time improvements for the women's team and improvements from top to bottom on the men's side highlighted the weekend for the ONU cross country program at the Louisville Cross Country Classic Saturday morning.

 

The Tigers competed in the fully-loaded Blue Division this year against some of the top teams in the NAIA, with the women running a 5k and the men taking on an 8k.

 

Women's Results

Catherine White brought home a top-50 finish as ONU's top runner, knocking nearly 30 seconds from her time at the Midwest Classic to place 50th in the women's Blue Division. Jacey Schickel missed out on her season-best by a half-second at 19:29.0, with Elise Champlin crossing the finish line at 20:04.4. Lauren Smith and Heidi Heldt both set new season-bests to wrap up the scoring for ONU.

The Tigers tallied 791 points to place 33rd out of 47. Taylor took the team crown with 67 points.

Men's Results

Running without the former CCAC Runner of the Week Taylor Vallangeon, the men's team saw Enrique Romo rise to the occasion as ONU's top runner in the Blue Division. Romo improved on his season-best time by over 24 seconds to place 95th. Austin Rush and Peyton Hobson both knocked a minute off of their times from two weeks ago to finish 150th and 197th, respectively. Flynn Prather pulled out a 26:32.2 in his 2022 debut while Connor Price knocked a whole two minutes off of his season best to round out the scoring for the Tigers.

As a team, ONU finished 35th of 45 overall with a total of 852 points. Grand Valley State, the host team, took first overall with 190 points.

WHAT'S NEXT?

The Tigers will head over to Indiana to compete in the Bethel Pilot Invitational at St. Patrick's Park on Friday, Oct. 7.
