OLMOS LEADS NO. 17 MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY AT FLYER FLAMES CHALLENGE

ROMEOVILLE, Ill.David Olmos was the top finisher for the Olivet Nazarene University men's cross country team at the Flyer Flames Challenge Friday evening on the campus of Lewis University in Romeoville, Ill. The junior transfer out of Loras College posted a time of 19:20.0 in the 6k event to finish 6th overall in the 86-runner event.

As a team, the No. 17-ranked Tigers finished with a score of 71 points to place third out of eight teams in the season-opening meet. Co-host University of Illinois-Chicago took down the meet with 18 points while also having the top finisher, Dathan Maton, who crossed the finish line at 18:57.4 to win the race.

The ONU pack-run was on full display at the Flyer Flames Challenge. Taylor Vallangeon, the reigning NAIA Men's Cross Country of the Year for the midwest region, crossed the finish line at 19:36.0 to place 13th overall. Not far behind were Flynn Prather in 14th place with a time of 19:37.3, and Enrique Romo in 15th place at 19:41.3. Peyton Hobson rounded out the scoring in 23rd place with a time of 20:28.5.

The ONU men will take a week off before hosting the Midwest Classic at the Aspen Ridge Golf Course in Bourbonnais, Ill. The meet is set to begin at 4:30 p.m. CST.
