POSTSEASON RUN COMES TO AN END AS ONU FALL TO REIGNING NATIONAL CHAMPIONS

PULASKI, Tenn. – The RV Olivet Nazarene University women's soccer team's postseason run in the NAIA National Tournament came to an end as the region hosts and reigning National Champions, Tennessee Southern, defeated the Tigers 3-1 in the tournament's Second Round. ONU finishes the season with an overall record of 15-6-1, winning the CCAC Regular Season Championship, and claiming their first win in the NAIA National Tournament since 2013.

The Eagles quickly scored their first goal of the match with only 4:18 coming off the clock. UTS's Yurki Watari was credited with the goal and Estelle Badoedana Ekada provided the assist. ONU did not stay down for long as Melea Miller scored the equalizer three minutes later. The Freshman scored her second goal and registered her fourth and fifth points of the tournament after finding space at the top of the box and scoring to the far-right corner of the goal.

Tennessee Southern regained the lead in the 26th minute off the foot of Kira Goodwin and then doubled the lead right just before half as Ekada tallied a goal to go along with her two assists for the afternoon. The home side clamped down defensively to not allow a shot attempt from the Purple and Yellow-Gold for the entirety of the second half to see out the win and advance to the National Tournament Championship Series in Orange Beach, Ala.

ONU saw seven seniors play their final game for the program. With two regular-season championships, two National Tournament berths, and their first NAIA National Tournament win since 2013 to their names, the athletics department would like to congratulate and thank them for all their hard work and dedication to the university. We wish them the best of luck in all their future endeavors.
