ZONTAVIUS JOHNSON NAMED NAIA WOMEN’S ASSISTANT COACH OF THE YEAR
NEW ORLEANS, La. – Olivet Nazarene University track & field assistant coach Zontavius Johnson received the U.S Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches' Association (USTFCCCA) National Women's Assistant Coach of the Year honor for the NAIA. The USTFCCCA announced their end-of-season awards Wednesday.
Johnson, in his second year as the sprints coach at ONU, watched his athletes score all 28 of the Tigers' points at the 2024 NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Brookings, S.D., last weekend, highlighted by the national titles won by Kiara Carter, Carsyn Burdine, Tera Miller, and Hannah Antkoviak in the 4x400-meter relay, and Antkoviak's individual gold medal in the 600-meter run.
Earlier in the season, Johnson's athletes put up 106 points at the CCAC Indoor Championships and broke two meet records. His athletes ranked top-3 nationally in three events during the regular season and their event groups were top-4 in the national #EventSquad Rankings, as well.
Johnson and the ONU track & field teams will now turn their attention to the outdoor season, beginning with the Texas Relays on Mar. 27 in Austin, Texas.
